Report summary
In the doctoral study program Pedagogy of the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor, a
self-evaluation process is carried out on an annual basis. In order to improve the study
process, they include in the self-evaluation process various stakeholders, students, holders
and providers of study subjects, working and certified mentors, members of the
Department of Pedagogy, the Program Council of the Department of Pedagogy,
professional services of the Faculty of Arts and the Rectorate of the University of Maribor.
Here, it is particularly necessary to highlight the role of the Program Council of the
Department of Pedagogy, which also enables external stakeholders to express their opinion
on the development of the doctoral study program in Pedagogy.
As part of the external evaluation process of the doctoral study program in Pedagogy, we
identified the following advantages:
1. The management of the doctoral study program Pedagogy and the Office for
Student Affairs - Level 3 ensure the high-quality implementation of the study
program and its development.
2. Within the doctoral study program in Pedagogy, the individualization of the study
process and the pursuit of students' wishes are strongly emphasized.
3. In accordance with the individualization of the study process, quality care is taken
for mentoring students, which is based on high-quality mutual relations and the
responsiveness of the providers of study subjects.
4. The University of Maribor, with the help of the Doctoral School, enables students to
acquire interdisciplinary knowledge.
5. An extensive fund of domestic and foreign resources for study is available to
students.
6. At the Faculty of Arts, they have developed a system of annual monitoring of the
conditions for student advancement.
At the same time, it is necessary to highlight the system of work mentors, who enable
students to formulate their own study development plan. With their help, the basis for
determining elective subjects is prepared and they help in preparing an idea for a doctoral
dissertation.
Based on the implementation of the external evaluation, we suggest to the management
of the Faculty of Arts and the doctoral study program Pedagogy to consider the following
key contents:
1. Carrying out a self-evaluation process over a longer period of time.
2. Familiarizing students with the content of self-evaluation reports.
3. Improvement of the system for monitoring the gathering of general and subjectspecific competencies of the doctoral study program Pedagogy.
4. Harmonize of curricula with all general and subject-specific competencies.
5. Equalization of quality standards between different providers of study subjects.
6. Systematic updating of curricula with literature and research findings of study
subjects.
7. Strengthen the staff with assistants.
8. Acquiring fundamental knowledge in pedagogy for students from other scientific
fields.
9. Strengthening the publication of scientific works by all students, not only those
employed at the faculty.
