Report summary
The postgraduate program Visual Arts: Contemporary Visual Practices and Theories is fundamentally well-established and represents a meaningful complement to the study of visual arts, while addressing interested postgraduate students who wish to enter the theoretical and artistic space with a broad knowledge of the field of various disciplines, to complete the whole discourse connections between theory and practice in this field. The inadequacies that we have identified relate primarily to certain programmatic and substantive ambiguities, which are highlighted in the report itself, and the lack of scientific competences of the principal lecturers and mentors. Because of that we propose to consider separating the artistic and scientific approach to certain contents, which offer a symbiosis of these two paradigms. However, the extremely interconnectedness of the program, the work of the management and professional services, which provide the appropriate material conditions for the operation of the program and the connection between the students and the teaching staff, which can, due to its boutique nature, act homogeneously and welltuned, should be commended. In this context, we continue to question whether a simple exemption from theory is appropriate; since external stakeholders also emphasized the importance of theoretical knowledge to the artists they work with and specifically emphasized the potential theoretical basis as a strong area of the second-cycle program that would meaningfully upgrade the first-degree program. Although the team of experts does not question the achievements of future program implementers, the necessary references are nevertheless necessary. With the changed topic and the focus of the program, which also excludes theoretical content (Visual Arts: Contemporary Visual Practices), the AVA has moved away from the focus of the higher education theoretical field and placed itself distinctly in the axis of practical education.
